John McCain’s VP Speech

Can I just say that listening to John McCain’s intro to his vp pick, it sounds like he’s reading a screed against himself and his party. I’m glad he agrees it’s time for someone to start turning around the failed policies of the past. Too bad he doesn’t get the part that he’s not the person to do it. Also funny that his VP pick’s bio sounds like a democrat’s. There were also some funny bits in his relating her domestic priorities to women’s suffrage, but he is 72.

Words of Wisdom filtered through Tim Bray

Tim Bray wrote a nice piece on allowing yourself time to rewrite your first crack at a program. I couldn’t agree more. Too bad it’s so hard for most of us to get in that mind set. His central quote is this little gem from Fred Brooks.

“Where a new system concept or new technology is used, one has to build a system to throw away, for even the best planning is not so omniscient as to get it right the first time. Hence plan to throw one away; you will, anyhow.”

- Fred Brooks in The Mythical Man Month

Looks like I may need to pick that one up now.

If you only had a mustache

Alas a handle bar like this is too good to last…

My lovely wife might disagree about the good part.
